Looking for a good humidifier at a discounted price that can help you when you are having cold and sore throat? That's why I wrote this article about how to get good humidifier for reasonable price and what benefits you can expect. Vicks UV 99.999% Germ Free Humidifier is the right thing for you.

If you got central heating in your apartment/house or someone in your family is suffering from asthma or dry skin then you know all the problems dry air can cause.

These problems can be minimized or even solved if you are using humidifier.

As a mother of a child prone to colds and as a person with dry and sensitive skin I can tell you all the benefits of using humidifier from my own experience. We live in a house with central heating and I adore it- being cosy and warm through winter is a blessing for me. But on the other hand, year after year, I was suffering from skin redness caused by very dry air from central heating. I can tell you I have tried lots of things: changed different facial creams to keep my skin moisturized, putting wet towels over my radiators (I don't recommend it because it will not help a lot and it will cause your room temperature to decrease and gas consumption to increase), putting containers with water on my radiators and so on. Then it hit me that we should try using humidifier. After some research, both through Internet and among my friends, we decided to buy something of a good quality.

Why we chose exactly Vicks UV 99.999% Germ Free Humidifier? It is attractive and well made. You do not have to shut it off to refill it. Holds a lot of water so it does not go dry overnight. Makes a pleasant noise. The UV lamp feature gives an additional level of sterilization, over and above the boiling action that creates the steam. Just remember that all humidifiers require regular maintenance.

How to Replace a Humidifier Filter

!±8± How to Replace a Humidifier Filter

The filter is ready for a change whenever there is visible build up of dust and pollutants. If there is nothing visible the filter still should be changed at least once a year to rid of invisible mold spores or bacteria that could be lurking in the filter. The frequency of change depends on how much the unit is used.

As with any electric appliance, be sure to unplug the unit before beginning. Then remove the water tank and empty it if necessary. Fill it up with cold water and add a tablespoon of household bleach to disinfect any possible mold or bacteria that might have built up in the sitting water. Let that sit for about 20 minutes.

Then proceed to remove the motor housing. It is the piece that covers the top of the humidifier. This is the opportunity to vacuum or wipe away any dust or dirt that might be on the humidifier. Do not take the unit apart any further than this because that would void the manufacturer warranty.

Now lift the filter out of the unit. Some models have filters that can be cleaned and reused. Since most replacement filters are economical, it is usually a good idea to simply use a new filter as it is the cleanest way to go. If you do choose to wash and reuse the filter be sure not to squeeze or wring it dry to avoid tearing the filter.

Putting the unit back together is pretty straight forward. Everything goes back the way it opened up. The base of the unit can be cleaned with a cup of white vinegar. Just let it sit for about 20 minutes, then use the bleach and water mix from the water tank to disinfect. Then rinse everything to rid of the cleaning chemicals.

Timely replacement of the humidifier filter is a good way of ensuring the optimal benefit of having and using a humidifier. If this is too much trouble there always is the option of a humidifier that does use a humidifier filter as well.

Where to Find Vicks UV Humidifier on Sale

!±8± Where to Find Vicks UV Humidifier on Sale

If you are anything like our family the humidifier runs 24/7 especially in the winter. The kids have colds and coughs and the air generated from the humidifier is what helps to ease the breathing. There are a number of humidifiers out there, but the one that I have found to be the best all rounder is the Vicks UV Humidifier.

The main issue I see with the humidifier is that it needs to be quiet. Many are not. This model has a very tolerable humming sound which some may even find quite soothing.

This humidifier gives off warm steam. This has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: it is warm and warms up the room, especially when you have small kids who tend to kick off their blankets.

Disadvantages: safety. If a child should play with the humidifier whilst it's working the warm steam could cause a burn, hence many prefer cold humidifiers. However, usually the humidifier runs at night when the child is sleeping so how much of a danger is it really?

The Vicks UV system does not have a filter but does come with a mineral pad which removes minerals from the water especially if you are using tap water.

What does it come with?

It also comes with an ultra violet process which kills up to 99.99% of all bacteria and germs in the water. This light is quite strong and may be a bit bright for some; however it can always double up as a nightlight in your kid's room.

This model comes with two tanks which enable you to have the humidifier running for around 10 or more hours. These tanks are easy to fill. You can even fill one tank whilst the other is working. The size of these tanks means that you will not need to refill the tank in the middle of the night.

One needs to note that all humidifiers require a small amount of maintenance and this Vicks model is no different. Once a week just clean it with some soap and water or vinegar or citric acid whatever your preferred method is. This will prevent a build up of white chalky crust. The exact details of how to clean it are in the package.

What Exactly is a Radiator Humidifier and How Do They Work?

!±8± What Exactly is a Radiator Humidifier and How Do They Work?

A radiator humidifier is used to eliminate the discomfort and irritations caused due to dry air inside homes and offices. Cold areas need modern heating systems to maintain a comfortable indoor environment and often result in removing humidity from the air making it dry. This can be rectified by using the correct humidifier to achieve the desired level of relative humidity thereby reducing health problems and also protecting the furniture and upholstery from damage.

Most of the modern humidifiers use advanced technology to operate and provide a comfortable indoor environment. Radiator humidifiers, on the other hand, are simple machines that help achieve the same result with minimum fuss. These function as per the following steps:

1. The radiator is turned on and gets heated to warm the rooms in cold months
2. This heated radiator warms up the water inside the humidifier that is placed near the radiator
3. The water slowly evaporates and creates moisture in the air thereby increasing the humidity to a comfortable level

Pros

· The water is heated only to a certain level and does not cause any burns.
· These are extremely quiet machines and are ideal for areas where noise is a concern like hospitals and homes.
· These normally come with translucent containers so as to monitor the level of water at all times.

Cons

· These machines take up a lot of space and are hence not ideal for areas where availability of space is a concern.
· The pads of the filter need to be replaced at least once in 6 weeks to get the best performance.

An oil filled humidifier solves the problem of taking up extra space as it can be placed in a small area. It comes with a vertical chimney so as to minimize the space taken and emits moisture laden air from this chimney to humidify rooms. The oil inside this unit heats up the water and causes its evaporation very quickly. The oil does not need to be refilled and operates at its optimum level whenever required.

Hence a radiator humidifier is ideal for people who do not want expensive and high technology using gadgets but want to humidify their homes using a simple yet effective method. These are basically low cost units that can be easily attached to the radiators already present in homes and are hence ideal for homes with a number of radiators. These are not easy to find as they have more or less been replaced by more expensive units that combine various technologies like germ free air and reusable filters to the basic job of humidifying homes. Therefore if you just want to humidify your home quietly and cheaply, radiator humidifiers are definitely the best choice available to you.
